DURVILLE CRESCENT
GRIFFITH
2016
This young family wanted to create their “forever home” in Griffith’s Blandfordia 5 Heritage Precinct. Their cottage had good bones but had been extended unsympathetically and lacked many of the inclusions and spaces routinely expected for contemporary living.
Our design included the reorganisation of existing spaces so that they flowed seamlessly on to the extension. The new living spaces in the extension connect to the outside with large areas of glazing.
The kitchen bench is the centre piece of the new living area, looking across to the adjacent parkland and opening to the beautifully landscaped garden and pergola covered terrace. The home now also has a large pantry, generous laundry and powder room. The spaces that were retained have been totally renovated with arts and craft inspired fixtures and fittings and bespoke finishes.
This modern sun filled, family home completely fulfilled the client brief of a seamless heritage extension that matched in style, detail and proportion the existing house and the leafy Inner South Canberra context. As this job neared completion we were given a great complement by a local walking past the site who asked “Which bit is the extension?”
