BEN’S HOUSE
GRIFFITH
2014
The owners of this house were a large young family who loved living in Canberra’s Inner South suburb of Griffith and while wanting to extend and renovate their house were restricted not only by the Heritage guidelines for the area but by a large and beautiful oak tree called “Ben”.
We negotiated with TAMS and ACT Heritage to enable an extension and complete renovation of the house whilst ensuring the health of Ben throughout the build. This award winning family home has a parent’s retreat in the branches of the oak with views across Canberra. The new open plan kitchen, dining and living area is perfect for this young family and the original rooms were restored to their former glory. The new living areas have expansive glazing catching the winter sunshine and allow the house to completely open up to an outdoor entertaining area under the canopy of such an amazing natural asset.
